(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Sometimes the winter can be a little dreary, and many of us are ready to say goodbye to 2020. But that does not mean we cannot have a little fun!

Have a (snow) Ball this winter during the Books Like Us Winter Reading Challenge at the Lawrenceburg Public Library District.

Kids and adults are encouraged to participate by logging in reading minutes and completing activities starting Saturday, Dec. 19. The challenge will run through Sunday, Jan. 31.

As levels are completed you will earn badges and be eligible for prizes!

"What happened to reading for pleasure? Kids and adults both should be reading for fun - not just when it's required by your job or school. Reading challenges us to understand new perspectives and cultures, and besides that, did you know reading has been shown to reduce stress and depression? What better way to fight off the winter doldrums than to have your whole family participate in our Winter Reading Challenge,” said LPLD Youth Services Manager Sheila Bigelow.

Registration is now open through Beanstack. The link is available on the library district’s website at: www.lpld.lib.in.us. Log your time spent reading on your computer/tablet or download the FREE Beanstack app to use on your mobile device.

Sponsored by Simon & Schuster, the Books Like Us Winter Reading Challenge will feature powerful stories and diverse voices from authors including Cozbi Cabrera, Sharon Draper, Stuart Gibbs, Stephen Graham Jones, Hena Khan, Debbie Ohi, Christina Hammonds Reed and Rebecca Roanhorse.

But you can read anything you want in any format including print books, e-books, newspapers, magazines and audiobooks! There is even a Story Hunt program families can participate in at the Lawrenceburg Main Library. Pick up a map or find it at: www.lpld.lib.in.us/story-hunt.

Check out some reading material at the Lawrenceburg Main Library, 150 Mary St., Lawrenceburg or the North Dearborn Branch, 25969 Dole Road, West Harrison. While you are there pick up a free Winter Reading Challenge bookmark.

If you want to stay home, your library card also offers free services such as Hoopla, OverDrive and Libby to download books and more without ever going outside. These services are available 24/7. For more information go to: www.lpld.lib.in.us/e-media19.
