(Harrison, Oh.) - The Harrison Police Department is reminding residents to take precautions after several overnight vehicle thefts reported this morning in the Whitewater Trails and Trailhead neighborhoods.
Preliminary investigations indicate that around 1:00 a.m., several individuals were checking for unlocked vehicles and open garage doors.
Three vehicles and one handgun have since been reported stolen. In each case, the vehicles were unlocked.
Residents are advised to:
- Lock your vehicle every time, even when it's parked in your driveway.
- Make sure your garage door is closed before turning in for the night.
- Turn on exterior lights and confirm that your doorbell or security cameras are working.
- Keep valuables out of sight by locking them in your trunk or bringing them inside your home.
- Never leave your keys inside your vehicle.
- Never leave a firearm inside an unattended vehicle.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is urged to contact the Harrison Police Department immediately.
"We'd much rather investigate something that turns out to be nothing than miss an opportunity to prevent a crime," reads a statement from Harrison PD.
