It was around 10:00 p.m. when Brittany Baker, 27, of Lawrenceburg, swerved her 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara in order to avoid a log that was in the roadway on U.S. 50 near Wormie’s Bait Shop. The car went off the highway and came to a rest 30 to 60 feet off the road in trees and vegetation, trapping Baker inside, said Greendale Police Sgt. Kevin Turner. Three passersby saw the accident and stopped to help prior to police, firefighters, and EMTs arriving. “The citizens reported the crash, braved the brush, mud, and difficult terrain to render aid, and assisted the police in their investigation by providing good statements,” Turner said. “I am always amazed and appreciative that citizens in this area are so caring and willing to extend a helping hand at emergency scenes. Emergency workers, while being trained and experienced in responding to such situations, need the help before they arrive and when they are short handed before reinforcements arrive.” The Good Samaritans were not named due to privacy concerns. Sgt. Turner said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident. U.S. 50 had intermittent lane closures for about 75 minutes following the wreck. Assisting Greendale Police at the scene were Greendale Fire Department, Hidden Valley Lake Rangers, Greendale EMS, and Hardintown Towing.
