(Batesville, Ind.) - Area students recently enjoyed a fun STEM activity at Genesis: Pathways to Success' Kids Building Bikes Camp and Camp Scrubs and Stethoscopes.

These two interactive and engaging camps gave students the opportunity to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts and potential healthcare career pathways through real-world experiences.

At Kids Building Bikes Camp, held at the Greensburg Community Learning Center, students learned about the history of bicycles while developing the practical skill set to be able to build and maintain their bicycles. Throughout the camp, students explored bike components, torque, and gear ratios, while installing brake pads, tires, pedals, handlebars, gears, and chains. Campers also learned about bike safety before getting the chance to ride the bikes they built.

Genesis also hosted Camp Scrubs & Stethoscopes at Margaret Mary Health Hospital, where students got an inside look at healthcare careers. Each day, campers were divided into two groups and rotated through different stations throughout the hospital, allowing them to learn from healthcare professionals and experience a variety of departments.

Campers explored anesthesiology, radiology, pharmacy, obstetrics, dietetics, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), infection prevention, and physical therapy during their time at Margaret Mary Health. They practiced changing diapers and safely swaddling an infant, learned how physical therapists help strengthen weak muscles and improve mobility, and even put their skills to the test through fun relay races to see how quickly they could suit up in protective medical gear. The experience allowed students to see the variety of career paths available within healthcare and learn how professionals work together to care for patients.

Through programs like Kids Building Bikes and Camp Scrubs and Stethoscopes, Genesis: Pathways to Success continues to provide opportunities for young people to discover new interests, build confidence, and create lasting memories during A Summer of STREAM.
