According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), more than 122,000 cases of Gatorade have been recalled across the U.S.
PepsiCo Inc. initially recalled the Gatorade on September 25 due to the presence of undeclared food dyes (Yellow No. 6 and/or Yellow No. 5), which can cause allergic reactions.
The FDA has issued a Class II recall for 28 oz. bottles of Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero Gatorade. A Class II recall is the second-highest risk level for the possibility of temporary or reversible health effects.
The recalled Gatorade was distributed in 37 states including Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
The FDA did not provide specific instructions, but as a Class II recall, the safest option is to throw out or return the affected Gatorade—even if you can consume the undeclared food dyes.
