Former City Of Aurora Mayor Paul Alford Passes Away At 88

Alford wasn't born or raised in southeast Indiana, but he called Aurora home.

(Aurora, Ind.) – A former City of Aurora Mayor and Indiana State Police Trooper has died.

Paul O. Alford passed away Sunday at the age of 88 at Forest Park Health Campus in Richmond, Indiana.

Alford was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, but he made his home in Aurora in following a stint in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

In 1954, Alford moved to Aurora. That was also the same year Alford began his career as an Indiana State Trooper. He would work his way up to Detective Sergeant before retiring from the force in 1974.

Following his service, Alford served two-terms as Mayor of Aurora. He and his wife, Jacquline also co-owned Alford’s Coins.

Outside of work, Alford was a member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge, Aurora American Legion and the FOP.

Visitation for Alford will be held on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora. Services will be held at the church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
