The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

(Florence, Ky.) - A Florence man was arrested after stabbing another man in the back multiple times on Sunday, May 24.

Just before 12:30 a.m., the Florence Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing on Center Street in Florence.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to his back. The suspect, Matthew Egan, 40, Florence, was on scene and detained.

During an initial investigation, it was found that the 40-year-old reportedly assaulted his girlfriend. The girlfriend then contacted a friend to come get her from the apartment. When the friend arrived, police say Egan punched and stabbed the friend in the back with a knife numerous times.

The victim was transported to UC Hospital for his injuries. He has been listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

Egan's girlfriend sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

Egan was arrested and transported to Boone County Jail after being treated for a minor cut at St. Elizabeth Hospital Florence. He has been charged with Assault 1st degree and Assault 4th degree-Dating Violence.

The Florence Police Department’s Investigative Division and Crime Scene Unit assisted in the investigation and processed evidence at the scene.
