(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Ohio County Tourism, Inc. announces that a fireworks display will be added to the Saturday, June 8, 2024 Rising Sun Summer Fest. The event will be held on Main, Poplar & Front Streets in downtown Rising Sun.

Free and open to the public, the event begins at 4:00 p.m. and goes to 10:30 p.m. The fireworks begin at 10:00 p.m. on Front Street, after the second band performs under the Main Street Pavilion. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs.

Ohio County Tourism, Inc. director, Kendal Miller, registered to “win” a free fireworks show at an Indiana Association of Fairs Convention in January. It wasn’t until she returned home from Indianapolis that she saw a recorded video of her winning entry being drawn on the BurgerHaus Productions Facebook page.

“I had no idea that my entry for the Summer Fest had been picked until I returned from Indy. I was shocked,” said Miller.

Contacting the fireworks company, Miller thanked owner Zack Burger for the prize and explained that she would have to go through the proper channels to see if Ohio County Tourism could accept the fireworks show.

“I felt bad that I couldn’t thank BurgerHaus Production publically or announce the event at the time. Zach understood that I had to get the blessing of the Ohio County Tourism board of directors to begin the process of accepting their generous prize. Obtaining permission from the City of Rising Sun and the Coast Guard, researching insurance and permits, and talking with emergency responders were all part of the process,” said Miller.

The board of directors of Ohio County Tourism took the opportunity to purchase additional minutes to nearly double the length of the initial firework prize.

The Rising Sun Summer Fest will feature live music by STILL KICK’N from 4-6 p.m., and Whoa, Man Band from 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Other participants include deejay J.D. Hughes; food trucks; arts & craft vendors; and inflatables in the Kid Zone.

Event sponsors include the City of Rising Sun; the Ohio County Community Foundation; Great Plains Communications; St. Elizabeth Healthcare; and First Financial Bank.
