(Ripley County, Ind.) – Folks in the area of the Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, formerly the Jefferson Proving Ground, may hear some loud noises Wednesday and Thursday.
Big Oaks Refuge Manager Joe Robb says that a 41-member Army team from Fort Knox, Kentucky will be conducting explosive detonations both days. The team is disposing of old explosives. Robb said he is notifying the public of the explosions so citizens would not be alarmed.
The detonations will take place from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.; 2:00-4:00 p.m.; and 5:00-6:00 p.m. each day.
The Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge sprawls over 50,000 acres in southwestern Ripley, southeastern Jennings and northern Jennings counties.
