(Greendale, Ind.) - Services have been announced for East Central High School senior Brett Fox.

The 18-year-old student died in a car crash on State Road 1 near Greendale last Thursday morning.

Fox’s mother and father, Heather and Kevin, made an emotional appearance at Friday’s EC boys basketball home game. Following a moment of silence held in honor of their son, the couple came into the gym and were embraced by many of Brett’s classmates.

“His memory will remain with us for the life he lived, the joy he brought to so many, and the student passion he embodied. Those things will always be remembered and celebrated,” ECHS principal Tom Black told the crowd.

Brett’s jersey and a big, silver “8” balloon were stationed in the front row of the Trojans’ student section. Virtually all of the students wore Fox’s jersey number on their shirts as a tribute to their classmate.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held Wednesday, February 27 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at East Central High School.

Brett Fox’s full obituary from Andres Wuestefeld Funeral Home in Dover, Indiana is below:

Brett Fox of Hidden Valley, IN passed away Thursday, February 21 as a result of a car accident. His truck hit an untreated patch of black ice on his way to school. Brett was 18 years old and was the dear son of Heather and Kevin Fox and big brother to Ryan. He was a senior at East Central High School and had recently signed an Academic and Athletic Scholarship to play Linebacker with Thomas More University. Brett was looking forward to playing alongside his cousin Sid, who recently transferred to Thomas More.

Brett’s final accomplishment, much like in life, was to give to others; his spirit will continue to live on in several recipients from his cornea (eye) and tissue donations.
