(Dillsboro, Ind.) - A new bike rack has been installed at Dillsboro Elementary School to honor the memory of a longtime teacher.

Darla Jacobs

Darla Jacobs taught at Dillsboro for 31 years. She died unexpectedly in May of 2018.

On Thursday, students and staff dedicated a new bike rack outside of the school. The blue bike rack adorned with the Bulldogs logo was donated by the Dillsboro Civic Club.

Along with a number of students, those in attendance for Thursday’s dedication included civic club officers Brett “Mooch” Hamilton and Tim Heitmeyer, principal Sam Melton; Dillsboro town councilman David “Woody” Fryman and wife Alecia Fryman, citizen Rod Hamilton, and Susan Greco of the Dillsboro Community Partnership.

Last month, the Darla Jacobs Memorial 5K Run/Walk was held in Dillsboro to raise money for a new memorial scholarship named after the beloved teacher. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to two South Dearborn High School graduates who attended Dillsboro Elementary School.
