DCF Proactive Grant Supports Cops and Kids Program

The program provides Christmas toys each year to local children in need.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - As a law enforcement officer and former Dearborn County sheriff, Dearborn Community Foundation Board member Dave Lusby has been a part of the Fraternal Order of Police family for years.

His loyalty and commitment are behind his recommendation for the organization to receive $1,000 from the Foundation’s annual program, through which each of the DCF’s 15 volunteer board members recommends a $1,000 grant.

The money will go directly to the FOP’s Cops & Kids Christmas gift program. The program receives referrals from local schools regarding students in need. More than 240 kids are impacted annually by the program, where police officers and other volunteers visit Aurora Wal-Mart spending $140 on each kid. Youth can buy clothes, shoes, hygiene items and one toy.

“It's great to see kids in need get to celebrate Christmas. We're very fortunate to live in a community that supports programs like Cops & Kids that make a difference in people’s lives,” said Lusby.

“I chose to recommend this great program because I know it’s a great feeling to do good things for others.”

The grants to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents are funded through unrestricted endowment funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

You too can contribute to a DCF unrestricted endowment to help make impact grants like the 15 DCF Board members are recommending in 2025.
