Part of ongoing zone painting project on Carroll Cropper Bridge.

(Petersburg, Ky.) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming daytime single lane closure on Interstate 275 westbound in Boone County on Saturday, February 14.
This traffic impact is part of the ongoing zone painting project on the Carroll Cropper Bridge.
On Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., crews will close the right lane of I-275 westbound from west of the Petersburg exit (12.0 mile point) to the end of the bridge (13.8 mile point), a distance of 1.8 miles. Crews will be performing rigging work underneath of the bridge. All lanes will reopen by 3 p.m.
Project Background
A zone painting project is under way on the Interstate 275 Carroll Cropper Bridge, which spans the Ohio River between Kentucky and Indiana, to fulfill Team Kentucky’s commitment to a safe transportation system for the traveling public while minimizing future traffic interruptions and maintaining the condition of a critical crossing ahead of the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project construction.
Zone painting is a necessary maintenance practice for steel bridges to protect against corrosion, particularly in vulnerable areas such as floor beams and beneath joints, or where existing paint has deteriorated. The process involves cleaning and repainting only the affected sections to prevent the spread of rust and extend the overall life of the structure. Only the eastbound lanes of the bridge, from Indiana to Kentucky, will need to remain closed during the length of the zone painting project expected to be completed by March, 31, 2026, weather permitting.
Southern Road & Bridge LLC is contracted to perform the nearly $2.5 million painting project.
