CVG Fares 2nd Highest In Nation

(Hebron, Ky.) - The average airfare at Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport is the second highest in the country.

The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics says local average price fares went up 11.8 percent in the second quarter.

The report’s fares are based on the total ticket value which consists of the price charged by the airlines plus any additional taxes and fees levied by an outside entity at the time of purchase. Fares include only the price paid at the time of the ticket purchase and do not include other fees, such as baggage fees, paid at the airport or onboard the aircraft.

Cincinnati’s average domestic round trip fare was at $476.06, trailing only Memphis at just a few cents higher for the nation’s highest fare.

The country’s cheapest average fares of $205 were found in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The national average was up about 8.5 percent from the second quarter of 2010 to $370.

Last month, Delta Air Lines announced it would add flights in 2012. Delta will have two new daily flights to Atlanta and Detroit beginning in March. The carrier will also introduce a round-trip, same plane service via Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon.

The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics report is available online at http://www.bts.gov/press_releases/2011/bts063_11/html/bts063_11.html.
