By Mike Perleberg (Florence, Ky.) - There are about to be a few more shopping options in retail-heavy Florence. Two new box stores are coming to the south end of Mall Road. They are Menards and Costco. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the two stores will be anchor tenants for a 63-acre retail site called Florence Heights on the east side of Mall Road near U.S. 42. The developer is Mall Road KY LLC. Restaurants, a hotel, or offices are other possibilities at Florence Heights. So is a large sporting goods store such as a Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops. On Tuesday, Florence City Council voted 4-0 to approve infrastructure improvements for the retail development. Each store is expected to submit plans to the Boone County Planning Commission in the next month or two, executives told the newspaper. Construction at the site is expected to start this summer. The stores could open as soon as mid-2015.
