(Brookville, Ind.) - This past summer, 8-year-old Carter Hicks noticed something that didn’t look right—a camper trailer was smoking and beginning to catch fire.
He quickly alerted the people around him, which led to firefighters responding to the scene.
Carter was honored this past Saturday by members of the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He was presented with a Department Patch and Certificate of Recognition for his vigilance, quick thinking and thoughtfulness.
"His vigilance and quick thinking helped make sure the situation was noticed before it could become even more serious. What impressed us just as much was why Carter acted. He was concerned about someone else’s property and wanted to make sure others knew it was in danger. That kind of awareness, responsibility, and thoughtfulness deserves recognition—especially from someone only eight years old," reads a statement from Blooming Grove Fire Department.
Blooming Grove Fire added "you don’t have to wear turnout gear or ride on a fire truck to make a difference in your community."
