(Friendship, Ind.) - Friendship Volunteer Fire Department has released details regarding a structure fire that occurred last Wednesday in the 3800 block of East Olean Road.
The fire broke out around 8:13 p.m.
Upon arrival, the homeowner had successfully knocked down a fire on the deck and burning up the rear of the structure.
Two of the first arriving firefighters made sure the fire was extinguished. The fire did cause damage to the siding and deck.
The homeowner seeing the blaze early and improvising a suppression tool (a mop) prevented a serious situation. The fire appears to have started by a bird nest in a porch light.
No injuries were reported.
"We have seen this before, might be a good reminder to check your lights," reads a statement from Friendship Volunteer Fire Department.
