(Aurora, Ind.) - Aurora residents will see different garbage trucks hauling away their trash beginning January 1, 2013.
City Council voted on November 14 to accept Best Way Disposal’s bid to handle the city’s trash service for the next five years.
City Attorney Jeff Stratman says that most residents won’t see any change in their waste removal. He did note that garbage pickup for the entire city could be done in a single day each week, probably on Wednesdays.
Also, garbage pickup in downtown Aurora is currently done twice a week, but will be reduced to just once a week starting next year.
Best Way’s bid to the city beat out bids by Rumpke of Indiana and Linkel Company. Best Way’s service will cost the city just over $930,000 over the five year period, about $63,000 less than Rumpke’s bid and about $70,000 less than Linkel.
Stratman has suggested to council that the city offer curbside recycling as a bonus to residents since the city is implementing a new garbage service fee of $8. All three of the trash companies also bid on recycling services, but council won’t make a decision on the recycling company until their December meeting.
