By Mike Perleberg (Batesville, Ind.) – There will be not just one, but two Lamping sisters in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Batesville High School 1991 graduate and former Purdue University player Cindy Lamping was announced as one of a dozen Hoosier hardwood greats to be part of the hall’s 2018 Women’s Induction Class. Cindy, now a resident of Chicago, joins her sister Donna (Lamping) Hoeing as a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Donna, a 1981 Batesville grad who played collegiately at Ball State University, was inducted last April. Lamping set the Batesville and Ripley County scoring records with 2,048 career points. Averaging 34.1 points, 15.1 rebounds and 6.7 steals per game as a senior, she was named 1991 Indiana All-Star, 1st team all-state and 3rd team All-American. She graduated as valedictorian at Batesville to accompany career averages of 22.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. She was a three-year starter at Purdue under hall of fame coach Lin Dunn. She scored 942 college career points. In 1994, the two-time team captain was a key player on Purdue’s NCAA Final Four team. Lamping was also part of two Big 10 championships, three NCAA Sweet 16s, and two NCAA Elite 8s. Averaging 8.1 points per game in her college career, she was named three-time academic all-Big 10, a two-time team captain, and received the Big 10 Medal of Honor, Red Mackey Award, an NCAA Post-Graduate scholarship and Purdue Mortar Board Female Senior Athlete of the Year. The formal induction for the 12 members of the 2018 induction class will take place at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Cindy was inducted into the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. That same year, she was named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Silver Anniversary Team.
