Press release from the City of Aurora
(Aurora, Ind.) - The Aurora Recreation Community Center recently received a grant from the Dearborn Community Foundation to refinish the gym floor located in the Community Center. The amount of the grant was $10,500.
“We want to thank the Dearborn Community Foundation for generously providing a grant that will benefit many users of our Community Center,” said Aurora Mayor, Donnie Hastings, Jr.
Since late 2010, Aurora, and surrounding, residents have had a Community Center focused on providing leisure recreation, exercise, sports leagues and activities for youth and adults. The Community Center is owned and operated by the City of Aurora and is located in the former Aurora High School. The Director of the Community Center, Dan Jefferson, commented that, “This site has long been a central point of focus in the Aurora Community, especially for those who attended Aurora High School, and Aurora Middle School, at this location. We have embraced that community pride and developed an Aurora Red Devil them in the gym.” The refinished gym floor includes a refinished Aurora Red Devil logo in the center of the floor.
However, the ARCC serves members beyond just the Aurora community. “We have members from many surrounding communities,” said Jefferson. The ARCC provides very affordable monthly memberships, and has served as many as 426 active members. The ARCC also allows daily use for a minimal daily fee. Because of the generosity of the Dearborn Community Foundation with this grant, and others in the past, the ARCC is able to offer a state-of-the-art fitness center for aerobic, cardiovascular and strength training that is available to the public at very affordable prices.
