(Aurora, Ind.) - The Aurora IGA, aka Tandy's, will close permanently at the beginning of 2023.
Owner Joe Jester tells Eagle Country 99.3 that the store will close on January 2.
Jester cited fewer customers and negative cash flow as the reasons for closing the doors.
"We've enjoyed taking care of the customers, there just wasn't enough of them," said Jester.
Jester took over ownership of the Aurora IGA five years ago. At that time, the grocery store was within two weeks of closing, but Jester decided to give it a try.
Five years later, the lease is up and Jester is unwilling to sign another five year lease due to the lack of customers.
All the current employees at the Aurora IGA have been guaranteed jobs at either the Rising Sun or Sunman stores.
As for the operations of the Aurora IGA. All the same things that customers have come to know and love, such as delicious donuts, will be moving to the Rising Sun store.
Jester believes the additions to the Rising Sun store will be it "quite vibrant".
