(Aurora, Ind.) - It all began in 1950 with a small group of dedicated volunteers.

Fast forward to present day and Aurora EMS has grown into an organization committed to providing compassionate, professional emergency medical care to families throughout the community.

As one might expect, the agency has advanced as technology has advanced.

In the early days, there were no modern ambulances, no advanced life support and little funding. Aurora EMS purchased their first ambulance in 1953. At the time, the volunteer squad even put their own personal finances up to ensure emergency medical services would continue.

Over the past 75 years, Aurora EMS has seen several advancements in emergency medicine, going from a single panel truck staffed by volunteers to today's highly trained EMTs and advanced EMTs equipped with state-of-the-art technology

"Every member who has worn the Aurora EMS patch has contributed to our story. Whether answering a late-night emergency call, comforting a family during their most difficult moments, teaching lifesaving skills, or volunteering countless hours behind the scenes, each person has helped shape our legacy," reads a statement from Aurora EMS.
