(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Two-time Olympic medalist Nick Goepper was welcomed home to Lawrenceburg on Sunday. Nick made his first public appearance in his hometown since winning a silver medal at the Winter Olympics in South Korea. Donning his newest medal, Goepper spoke at Perfect North Slopes before hundreds of fellow skiers. “I gotta tell ya, the silver medal is a little sweeter than the bronze medal,” Goepper said in front of the snow terrain park where he learned to ride rails and performed his first flip of a jump as a youngster. “To be here at Perfect North celebrating my second Olympic medal is something I never imagined. I don’t think the City of Lawrenceburg thought it would have a two-time Winter Olympic medalist either. I never imagined the life I’ve lived up to this point. I had some ideas, but nothing ever really goes to plan.” Goepper told the crowd he’s looking forward to going for a gold medal at the 2022 Olympics.

— Eagle Country 99.3 (@eagle993) March 4, 2018 He was honored by ski-area owner Chip Perfect, who recalled the days when a 12-year-old Goepper would frequent the slopes. “Smooth, talented, fearless, all the traits. But the most important one is that he stuck with it. All of you, especially young people up front, the message from Nick Goepper isn’t that he started here at Perfect North Slopes. It is where he ended up and how he got there,” Perfect said. Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun presented Nick with a framed replica of the signs denoting Lawrenceburg as the hometown of the two-time medalist. The signs will be installed on “Welcome to Lawrenceburg” signs on highways leading into the city limits as soon as this week. Nick will be honored Monday morning with a resolution in the Indiana House of Representatives. He will also meet with Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb. Eagle Country 99.3's Bubba Bo spoke with Nick on Monday morning. Listen to the full interview in the audio player below.
