(St. Leon, Ind.) – An East Central High School has been named a finalist for a prestigious scholarship.

On Wednesday, senior Adam Lyness was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist. Lyness is among 15,000 Semifinalists that have advanced to finalist standing.

All winners of Merit Scholarship® awards are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments—without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference.

Lyness has excelled in the classroom and participated in many extra-curricular activities during his time at East Central. He is a member of the National Honors Society, an officer of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a dedicated member of Dearborn Hill UMC and has volunteered in many community programs.

Athletically, Lyness served as a captain for the boys soccer team this past fall, and was a member of the Trojans basketball team through his junior year.

Adam is the son of Pam and Jeff Lyness, of Guilford.
