9 Year Sentence For Woman Who Dealt Heroin Used In Fatal Overdose

(Franklin County, Ind.) - A woman has been sentenced to prison for dealing heroin to another woman who fatally overdosed. Alyssa Heppner, 24, of Batesville, died of an overdose on October 23, 2015 at the home of Ronald Stirn. Batesville Police investigators said Heppner and her twin sister were dealt the heroin by Virginia Hooten, 23, of Milford, Ohio. Back in Franklin County Circuit Court I on April 26, Hooten pleaded guilty to Dealing in a Narcotic Drug (level 4 felony). A charge of Reckless Homicide (level 5 felony) was dismissed. The judge ordered Hooten to serve six years in prison and three years on probation. Her earliest possible release date is in September 2020, according to the Indiana Department of Corrections. This is not Hooten's first drug conviction. In 2013, she was convicted in Ripley County for Dealing in a Controlled Substance (class B felony) and served about 18 months behind bars. Stirn, 55, of Batesville, is also facing charges, but his case is still pending in court with a trial scheduled for Spetember 6, 2017. He is charged with two counts of Promoting Prostitution (level 5 felony), Maintaining a Common Nuisance (level 6 felony), and two counts of Patronizing a Prostitute (class A misdemeanor). Police said Heppner was involved in an ongoing relationship with Stirn in which he would provide prescription medications in exchange for sexual favors.
