1 man, 2 women killed in daytime shooting outside Louisville driver's license branch

Shooting took place in Valley Station

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman and her two children were shot and killed Friday afternoon outside a driver's license branch in Valley Station.

Louisville Metro Police said it happened around noon at the Driver Licensing Regional Office on Dixie Highway just north of Interstate 265.

Maj. Donald Boeckman said in a Friday afternoon news briefing that a man was pronounced dead at the scene, and two women died after being taken to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville.

"I'm surprised there were not more people injured, because many people were standing outside," Boeckman said. "But as far as any details into what occurred, I just can't speak to them right now."

A family member of the victims said the victims were woman and her son and daughter.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear posted on social media Friday afternoon about the shooting, calling it a "senseless act of violence."

"I want to thank the brave law enforcement officers who responded quickly to the scene and to our team members who worked quickly to protect their fellow Kentuckians," Beshear said. "Let’s pray for the family members of those lost during this difficult time."

LMPD's Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting, but there have been no arrests. If you have any information about this case, you are asked to call LMPD's anonymous Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or submit a tip on the anonymous Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
