Columbus, Indiana firefighters battle a fire following a plane crash into a home on the city's North side Thursday morning.

Two people are recovering from severe burns after their small plane crashed into a house in Columbus, Indiana.
Officials say Dennis King and Gerald Clayton had just taken off from Columbus Regional Airport when the plane went down Thursday morning about 1.5 miles away.
The FAA says the single-engine plane was built from a kit. The aircraft was registered to Clayton.

(Columbus, Ind.) - A small private plane crashed into a home in Columbus, Indiana Thursday morning.
At about 9:33, the single-engine aircraft struck the home on Broadmoor Lane on the city’s north side, The Columbus Republic reports. The house then burst into flames.
The pilot and a passenger – who have yet to be identified – both survived the initial crash. They were both first taken to Columbus Regional Hospital. One of the individuals was later transferred by medical helicopter to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of severe burns. The other victim was transferred to Wishard by ambulance.
A woman was inside the home at the time of the plane crash, but she made it out unharmed.
A neighbor told The Republic "We heard a boom in the air and another boom on the ground. I stepped out my front door to see if there was any damage on the street." Another neighbor reported hearing the plane’s engine go out.
The Columbus Police Department was leading the law enforcement portion of the investigation into the crash. Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration were expected to arrive at the crash scene to begin their investigation sometime Thursday afternoon.
The crash scene is about 1.5 miles south of the Columbus Regional Airport.
