By Travis Thayer (Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Town of Dillsboro has officially been named the newest member of the Indiana Main Street program. Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb and the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) made the announcement on Monday. The Main Street program encourages economic development, redevelopment, and improvement to downtown areas in Indiana cities and towns. “Dillsboro’s Indiana Main Street designation is a great example of a community taking important steps to further enhance the value of their downtown area,” said Holcomb. “Our main streets serve as the focal point for businesses and organizations to grow, fostering a quality of place that attracts both visitors and residents to Indiana’s communities.” The Dillsboro Community Partnership (DCP) has established four committees in line with Main Street’s four point approach of organization, promotion, design and economic vitality. The group of community members and business leaders are dedicated to creating a vibrant downtown by fostering hometown pride, enhancing and promoting growth and supporting local businesses and organizations. “We are thankful to have a strong core of civic organizations – the Dillsboro Civic Club, the Beautification Committee, the Ross Foundation, as well as very active churches, veterans’ organizations, and volunteer groups –which supports programs and activities in town,” said Seth Elder, town manager. Dillsboro joins 117 other IMS communities in the program, including Aurora, Batesville, Brookville, Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun and Vevay. “Our hope is that Dillsboro Community Partnership can help coordinate, strengthen, and support existing organizations in more comprehensive activities to develop and revitalize Dillsboro’s downtown area and business community through the Main Street approach,” said Elder. Last year, Indiana’s Main Street program completed 571 building and façade renovations, added 284 new businesses, and created 1,662 new jobs statewide.
