(Milan, Ind.) - Three people have been charged in connection with a Milan murder that investigators say was the result of a random home break-in.

Nancy Hershman, 68, was shot dead inside her home on West Ellis Street on the morning of Sunday, December 30.

Late Saturday afternoon, Indiana State Police with the help of Colerain Township, Ohio Police arrested 22-year-old Allison Moore and two 16-year-old male juveniles from Colerain Township. They were taken into custody at their residences without incident.

"Investigators determined this incident was a random act and the suspects were driving around and came to Indiana and decided to break into a home. Once inside they were apparently confronted by Mrs. Hershman and during the confrontation, Mrs. Hershman was shot and killed," said ISP Sgt. Noel Houze.

Houze added that the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are possible.

As of Sunday morning, Moore is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati on a preliminary charge of Murder. The two juveniles are also being held in juvenile detention in Cincinnati on juvenile charges in connection with the murder. Formal charges are expected to be filed Monday or Tuesday in Ripley County.

If Moore agrees to waive extradition, she could be brought back to Ripley County as early as this week, Houze said. If extradition is not waived, it could take several weeks before Moore can be brought to Indiana.

Indiana State Police Detective Sgt. Tom Baxter, who led the investigation, expressed his gratitude to the Colerain Township Police Department for their outstanding cooperation and assistance in locating and apprehending the suspects.
