(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) is dropping out of the governor's race. Tallian, who was running on a marijuana legalization platform, announced her decision on Monday “after much consideration.” “I am humbled by the welcome I received from all corners of the state over the last few months,” Tallian said in a statement. “I will continue to build on my decade of experience as a state senator, fighting to ensure equal rights, well-paying jobs, and quality education for all Hoosiers. I want to extend my heartfelt thank you to all of my supporters for your belief in a more progressive Indiana.” That leaves John Gregg as the sole contender in the Democratic race, setting up a rematch of 2012’s general election when Mike Pence defeated Gregg. Glenda Ritz dropped out of the Democrat gubernatorial field earlier this month to run for another term as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Like Ritz, Tallian’s campaign severely lagged behind Gregg in fundraising. While Gregg, the former Indiana House Speaker, raised $1.8 million in the first half of 2015. Tallian reported only $24,000 in fundraising. Tallian said she now supports Gregg in his bid for the governor’s office.
