Southwest Local Superintendent To Retire At End Of School Year

By Travis Thayer (Harrison, Oh.) – The Superintendent of the Southwest Local School District is set to retire. Chris Brown has served as Superintendent for eight years. At a board meeting last week, Brown informed members of the board that he will retire effective May 31. In a letter to parents, Brown thanked every staff member, student and community member for their support over the past 30 years and especially the past eight years as Superintendent. Brown noted that he believes the school system has improved during his tenure. In the past eight years, the district has been rated Excellent or Excellent with Distinction, technology has increased across the district four-fold, and the financial outlook of the district has improved, among other accomplishments. “When I started as Superintendent in 2008, I wanted our district to continue to improve under the motto: Excellence with Relationships. I have been fortunate to get to know many of you through interactions at athletic events, musicals, science competitions, school assemblies, etc. either as a teacher, principal, parent or administrator. I will cherish many of these interactions and friendships that have developed over the past thirty years,” Brown said.
