Rising Sun Bicentennial Parade Planned For Oct. 11

Press release from Rising Sun Navy Bean Fall Festival (Rising Sun, Ind.) - The City of Rising Sun is currently celebrating its 200th birthday (1814 to 2014) with a year-long Bicentennial Celebration. Several Bicentennial celebration events will be held throughout the year 2014. One of the premier events will be a Bicentennial Parade which will take place during the Rising Sun Navy Bean Fall Festival. The Navy Bean Fall Festival will be held Friday, October 10, and Saturday, October 11, 2014 in downtown Rising Sun and along the Riverfront Park on Front Street. The Bicentennial Parade will be take place on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 10:30am. The Festival Parade Committee is asking families, businesses, organizations, clubs, sports teams, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, churches, high school alumni, high school classes and clubs, etc. to design a float or entry and be part of the Bicentennial Celebration. Entries may be presented in the back of a pickup truck as long as participants are safely secured inside the bed of the truck. The theme of the Bicentennial Parade will be “Rising Sun: A Story 200 Years in the Making!”  Participants are asked to design an entry reflecting a period of time in Rising Sun between the years of 1814 to 2014. Ideas for entries could be a display of Rising Sun’s Founding Fathers, early settlers, a popular landmark, past or present restaurant, hangout or historical site loved by Rising Sun folk.  A Rising Sun High School class reunion or sports team reunion, a historic event that took place in Rising Sun or Pop Culture events such as popular TV shows or music throughout the years. The ideas are endless. Prizes will be awarded for 1st Place: $500; 2nd Place: $300; 3rd Place: $200; 4th Place: $100.  Entries wishing to eligible for prizes must submit a $5.00 judging fee with their parade application. Parade applications can be picked up in the following locations: Rising Sun City Hall, Rising Sun Historic Downtown, Rising Sun Ohio County Tourism and the Ohio County Community Foundation. Applications can be downloaded at the Festival website at navybeanfestival.org. Now is the time to get excited about the Bicentennial Parade and to begin planning your entry.
