Pence Raises $3M, Gregg $1.79 In Race For Gov.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Republican Mike Pence is outpacing Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham in fundraising as they race for Indiana governor.

New second quarter campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show Pence raised about $3 million to Gregg’s $1.79 million for the reporting period April 1 through June 30. Libertarian candidate and former Survivor star Rupert Boneham raised $17,000 during the quarter.

Pence, however, had three times as much cash coming in from out-of-state donors than Gregg - $1.37 million to $455,000.

The quarter ended with $5.54 million cash remaining in Pence’s warchest. Gregg holds on to $2.85 million while running mate State Senator Vi Simpson had $105,000 on hand. Boneham had about $2,000 on hand with a $4,000 debt.

Gregg bragged that more than 97 percent of donations to his campaign came from inside the state. About 76 percent of Pence’s donations were received from Hoosiers.

“I am honored and humbled by the support the people of Indiana have shown me,” Gregg said in a statement.  “This campaign has been about bringing Hoosiers together to focus on creating jobs and improving the economy.  Today’s report shows that message is resonating throughout Indiana.”

Despite a lower percentage of Indiana-raised donations, Pence’s campaign sang a similar tune.

"Hoosiers from all four corners of the state are responding to our positive, issues-based campaign," said Pence campaign manager Kyle Robertson. "We are honored to have their continued support."

Candidates for Indiana’s U.S. Senate seat have also been hard at work raising campaign funds. Republican Richard Mourdock, the state treasurer who defeated longtime incumbent Sen. Richard Lugar in the May 8 primary, raised $4.1 million in the second quarter. Democrat Joe Donnelly – unopposed in the primary – raised $2.6 million. Libertarian Andy Horning raised $733.

Donnelly has more cash on hand, however, with $1.4 million in the bank entering the third quarter. Mourdock has nearly $890,000 cash on hand. Horning has $133 remaining.
