By Travis Thayer (Gallatin County, Ky.) – An arrest has been made in a human trafficking case in Gallatin County. Kentucky State Police received a complaint this past May regarding Jesus Chavez, the owner and operator of a general maintenance company located in Bedford, Kentucky. The complaint referenced a job at a hotel in Sparta, where an employed claimed to have worked 60 hours for Chavez, but had not been paid for services rendered. According to the complaint, Chavez refused to pay his employee and even threatened to contact immigration and report the complainant as an illegal immigrant if he went to the police. On July 18, KSP was provided with a civil judgement out of Clark County, Indiana where Chavez never paid employees who completed work for him in 2003. Chavez failed to show up for court to contest the charges. A Gallatin County Grand Jury was presented the case on July 24 and returned a True Bill for indictment. Chavez was located at the Carroll County Public Library on Wednesday and was placed under arrest. He is charged with one count of Human Trafficking (Class C felony). He was lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center on $10,000 full cash bond.
