(Boone County, Ky.) - A former Warren County, Ohio sheriff's deputy will spend the rest of his life in a Kentucky prison for the murders of his parents.
Michael Moore was handed two sentences of life in prison without parole Tuesday. The 43-year-old was convicted by a Boone County jury on charges of murder, tampering with evidence and falsely reporting a crime following a lengthy trial last September.
The life sentence was the most Moore could have received because the jury declined to recommend he be sentenced to death.
Moore gunned down his parents, Warren and Madge Moore, in their Boone County home in 2009 during an argument over drugs. Warren was the Union City Administrator and had previously served as the city’s mayor.
Despite the conviction, Moore has never admitted to murdering his parents. He originally told investigators that a masked intruder shot his parents the night of June 12, 2009. He changed his story at trial to claim that Warren shot Madge during a fight, then he wrestled the gun away from Warren and shot him in self-defense.
Moore’s uncle and own daughter supported the life sentence. Moore did not testify on his own behalf.
