(Burlington, Ky.) - New developments came Wednesday in the case of an Aurora woman’s murder.

Charles “Steve” Stephenson has been reported as a person of interest in the March 29 murder of Aurora resident Leigh Jennings. The 67-year-old was discovered dead in her apartment on Aspen Ridge Road on April 5.

An autopsy determined Jennings died of skull fractures caused by blunt force trauma to her head.

Stephenson, 58, appeared in Boone County Circuit Court Wednesday on charges of tampering with evidence and drug trafficking. He pleaded not guilty to both.

Prosecutors said those charges are as a result of Indiana authorities’ investigation into Jennings’ death.

Commonwealth Attorney Linda Tally-Smith said Stephenson was the last person to be seen with Jennings alive.

Stephenson has not been charged or named a suspect in the murder by Aurora Police.

Tally-Smith also said more charges are expected against Stephenson next week for financial fraud totaling more than $100,000, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Stephenson, of Florence, is the nephew of slain Florence couple Bill and Peggy Stephenson. The 74-year-olds were found murdered in their apartment on Ridge Edge Court last May.
