(Switzerland County, Ind.) - A Switzerland County man is accused of escaping from a jail work detail, only to be recaptured hours later. Christopher D. Gullion, 23, was part of a 10-inmate work crew at St. Ann’s Golf Course near North Vernon on Tuesday when he walked off, according to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department. Gullion’s absence was noticed at around 2:00 p.m. Deputies, Indiana State Police, jailers, and others established a perimeter. A Jennings County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was called in. The police dog tracked Gullion to a railroad in North Vernon. He attempted to run from officers by crossing the Muscatatuck River, but was taken back into custody there less than three hours after his initial escape. Investigators found that Gullion had changed his clothes. They believe he found new clothes in a garage and left his black-and-white striped jail suit behind. Anybody who may discover the missing jail uniform should call the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office at (812) 346-4911. Gullion faces new charges of Escape (level 5 felony), Theft (class A misdemeanor), and Resisting Law Enforcement (class A misdemeanor) in Jennings County. He was held on a $5,218 bond as of Wednesday.
