By Mike Perleberg Eric Holcomb. (Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana Governor-elect Eric Holcomb is saying he'll continue working toward Governor Mike Pence's goal of making the state better. “We intend to take, as he was, the state to the next level. So we will be measuring what we do on a daily basis and soliciting support from Hoosiers all over the State of Indiana to achieve that goal,” Holcomb said Wednesday at his first press conference since the election. Holcomb, a Republican, defeated Democrat John Gregg by seven points in Tuesday’s election. Suzanne Crouch will be his lieutenant governor. The transition to a new Indiana governor should be fairly seamless. Holcomb is the current lieutenant governor under Mike Pence. Holcomb said his administration will make sure the budget is fiscally sound, that the state is focused on the workforce, and that there is a data-driven, sustainable infrastructure program. The governor-elect announced a transition board that comes from all areas of the state to help him know the problems Hoosiers have. The 16-member team includes co-chairs Early Goode, former chief of staff for former Governor Mitch Daniels, and Kyle Hupfer, former director of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources under Daniels. Former Daniels lieutenant governor Becky Skillman is also a transition team member. “We’re drawing the experience and the insight and the intellect from all over the State of Indiana that are going to be part of this new administration,” Holcomb said. He said he did talk with both President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Pence after winning the presidential election Tuesday night and says he was congratulated on his win. Pence will return to Indianapolis on Thursday, with a "Welcome Home Rally" planned at the Indianapolis International Airport. Holcomb will be installed as governor with his inauguration in January 2017.
