(Cleves, Oh.) - A Cleves man is going to prison for eight years for causing a crash that claimed the life of a Cleves woman.
Lisa Hasting, 22, died two days after a July 2012 accident in which her car was struck by an SUV driven by Dennis Alsip, Junior on Ohio 128 near Morgan Road. Alsip’s vehicle came to a rest on top of Hasting’s car. Prosecutors said Alsip was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The 20-year-old Alsip pleaded guilty last month to a charge of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide. In a Hamilton County courtroom on Thursday, Alsip was given the maximum eight year sentence. He was given credit for almost a full year already served in jail.
Hasting’ mother had harsh words for the man responsible for her daughter’s death, captured on video by WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.
“I wish Judge (Nadine) Allen would say to me, ‘There he is. Do whatever you want.’ I would kill you. You killed my daughter,” Karen Hasting told Alsip before a court full of Lisa’s family and friends.
"I have wishes for you and I hope they all come true. I wish you have a painful, miserable life. I wish you nothing but bad luck and bad health," she continued.
Alsip told the court he is sorry and takes responsibility for his poor decision. Allen said she was disappointed that the law did not allow her to give a longer prison sentence.
Lisa Hasting, a 2008 Taylor High School graduate, was on her way to work as a local EMT when the crash occurred.
