Press release from Dearborn County Convention, Visitor & Tourism Bureau
(Aurora, Ind.) - Just in time for the summer travel season, the Dearborn County Convention, Visitor & Tourism Bureau announced today that it has launched a new, free mobile app designed to help visitors to Southeast Indiana navigate the area’s Windows of Aurora public art trail.
A partnership between Main Street Aurora and the Southeastern Indiana Art Guild, Windows of Aurora is a public mural project featuring 19th-century-era street scenes that transport visitors back in time to the period when Aurora was an important steamboat stop along the Ohio River. The 60+ murals – placed on historic buildings throughout the downtown – depict scenes that people in the early 1900s would have seen if they were looking into or out of their windows in Aurora during that time period.
The free mobile app – available for download from the Apple iTunes Store, allows visitors to download detailed Windows information directly onto their smartphones or tablets, so that they can follow the trail and learn more about each piece of art at their leisure. The app is designed to better help visitors navigate the trail and enjoy an interactive walking tour of the city's historic downtown.
In addition to mural images and select artist videos, information and mapping is also included for nearby attractions, shopping and dining.
Located along a bend in the Ohio River, the small town of Aurora is known for its 19th-century churches, historic architecture and well-preserved National Historic district, which includes Hillforest Victorian House Museum, an Italianate-style mansion and National Historic Landmark that is open to the public for tours. Other attractions include riverfront dining, several specialty shops and the Great Crescent Brewery, a working historic brewery offering a selection of handcrafted beer and ales.
