Cookies for a Cop Shows Appreciation For Law Enforcement Officers

By Travis Thayer The Harrison Police Department is just one of several local police locations that are served with Cookies For A Cop. Photo provided. (undated) – A simple yet thoughtful gesture has gone a long way to tell our law enforcement officers that they are appreciated and valued. In December 2014, Becky Grizovic founded Cookies for a Cop, a coordinated and highly organized annual event that brings together approved leaders from around the U.S. to deliver cookies to their local police departments, dispatch centers, and detention centers. The mission is simple, deliver two cookies for every one officer or civilian support personnel at a given location in hopes of bringing a smile to their face. It all started with a Facebook post. Grizovic became overwhelmed with issues concerning police officers in the news and decided to take to social media to see if a few friends wanted to help bake cookies for a Northern Kentucky Sheriff’s office. So many close friends were interested in helping that she decided to add more departments. The trend has continued and Cookies For A Cop has now spread through 26 states. "I have a brother who is a Law Enforcement Officer and I know how difficult their jobs can be, said Marksberry. I decided I wanted to join Cookies For A Cop because I wanted make a positive impact for the departments in our area." This year, Marksberry and volunteers are serving the following police locations: Harrison Police Department - Harrison, Ohio West Harrison Police Department - West Harrison, Indiana Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office Sunman Police Department - Sunman, Indiana Batesville Police Department - Batesville, Indiana Greendale Police Department - Greendale, Indiana Hidden Valley Police - Lawrenceburg, Indiana Leon Police Department - St. Leon, Indiana Brookville Police Department - Brookville, Indiana Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Laurel Police Department - Laurel, Indiana Carmel Police Department - Mt. Carmel, Indiana Other states represented: AL, AZ, CA, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KY, LA, ME, MA, MD, MI, NJ, NY, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WV "I wanted to acknowledge them and let them know that we appreciate, respect and support each and every one of them for all they do. This message is really personal to me and all the ladies who help bake, sort and deliver because we will never be able to thank each of these officers enough for what they do and this simple act of #sweetkindness is just a start." said Marksberry. During the organization’s first project, volunteers were able to deliver more than 30,000 cookies to more than 220 departments in 24 states just before Christmas. This year, the delivery date has been moved away from the holidays and is set for the week of October 5.
