Citizen Tip Leads To Accused Meth Dealer's Arrest

Switzerland County deputies arrested a woman with a large amount of methamphetamine Tuesday.

(East Enterprise, Ind.) – A woman attempted to flee police who responded to suspicious person report in East Enterprise on Tuesday, January 8.

The Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office says deputies went to a business in the East Enterprise area. Once on scene, they located Jessica K. Jewell seemingly asleep in a vehicle. An alcohol beverage bottle and drug paraphernalia were observed in her lap.

As the investigation was taking place, Jewell escaped from a police vehicle and fled on foot. She was eventually found nearby and taken back into custody.

Deputies would find a large amount of methamphetamine and other items associated with drug dealing, numerous prescription medications, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in Jewell’s vehicle.

“The Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank concerned citizens for reports leading to this arrest and encourage others to do the same when suspicious activity is observed. Other assisting agencies included the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office and Switzerland County Emergency Response,” said Sheriff Brian Morton.

Jewell is charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine (level 2 felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (level 3 felony), Escape (level 5 felony), Possession of Narcotic Drug (level 6 felony), Possession of Marijuana (class B misdemeanor), Possession of Paraphernalia (class C misdemeanor), and five counts of Possession of Controlled Substance (class A misdemeanor).

She is incarcerated in the Switzerland County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
