Cincinnati Man Drowns Attempting To Cross Whitewater River

By Mike Perleberg (Whitewater Township, Oh.) - An afternoon of fishing on the Whitewater River ended with a drowning Sunday. Allen Godshall, 40, of Cincinnati, was fishing with a friend on the river in Whitewater Township near U.S. 50 and Kilby Road when they attempted to walk across the river just before 1:00 p.m., according to Whitewater Township Fire Chief Scott Schorsch. Godshall was swept under the water and never resurfaced. Rescue crews pulled Godshall’s body from the water at about 2:30 p.m. It was located about 100 yards downstream from where he had disappeared. The other man fishing with Godshall was not harmed as he made it across the water. Authorities said the incident was not related to the Green Acres Canoe and Kayak rental business, though crews did use the facility for a staging area. Agencies assisting the Whitewater Township Fire Department in the rescue and recovery effort were Miami Township Fire Department, Springfield Township Fire Department, Colerain Township Fire Department, Bright Fire Department, Greendale Fire Department, Delhi Township Fire Department, Cincinnati Police Department, Delhi Township Fire Department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Hamilton County Police Association Dive Team and UC Air Care.
