(Aurora, Ind.) – A website is generating plenty of discussion among mullet-sporting, beer drinking folks at the local superstore or fishing hole. Aurora and Lawrenceburg are being ranked as the number one and number two “Most Redneck Cities” in Indiana by the website RoadSnacks.net. The website says of itself, “We aim to deliver infotainment about where you live that your real estate agent won't tell you. We use data, analytics, and a sense of humor to determine the dirt on places across the country.” RoadSnacks.net says its article is “an opinion based on facts and meant as info-tainment.” It used science and data to determine the “Most Redneck” rankings from 94 Hoosier cities with populations between 2,500 and 25,000. Aurora ranked as the most Redneck City in the state because it is first in fishing/bait shops per capita, second in Walmart and Golden Corral ranks, and third in bars per capita. “Dern tootin’, Aurora! You have the official bragging rights as being named the most redneck city in the entire state of Indiana. You may now brag to your friends and share this endlessly on your Facebook walls,” writes reporter Frederick Marksman. Lawrenceburg was right behind its neighbor at second on the list. The website ranked the Spirit City third in fishing/bait shops per capita, fifth in gun stores per capita, and a high school graduation rate of 74 percent (which isn’t entirely accurate). “Guess who is right next door to Aurora? Lawrenceburg. The rednecks here probably share fishing stories with Aurora rednecks at the Lawrenceburg Waffle House. Then Aurora invites Lawrenceburg over to shop at their Walmart,” Marksman wrote. Southeast Indiana in general seemed to rank highly. Not-so-far-away Madison ranked third with, again, high ranks for bait shops and bars. “If you’ve ever been there during an event (they host the speedboat race called the Madison Regatta every July), you know it gets pretty rednecky here,” the article states. Other Indiana cities rounding out the top ten “Most Redneck" rankings included Angola, Whiting, Warsaw, Knox, Logansport, Monticello, and Columbia City.
