By Mike Perleberg Allegiant will begin base operations at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport in January, the airline announced Thursday. (Hebron, Ky.) - The Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport will be a new base of operations for Allegiant Air. The announcement was made Thursday morning at CVG. The base, which would be Allegiant’s 14th, will include up to three 156-seat Airbus 319 passenger jets. The CVG base is expected to employ more than 90 pilots, flight attendants, and airport service personnel. Base operations will begin here in January 2016. Allegiant’s presence at CVG has taken off quickly since it first began flying to and from the airport in February of 2014. Cincinnati is now Allegiant’s fastest-growing market in the airline’s 16-year history and will soon be the largest origination market for Allegiant. “The Greater Cincinnati area has quickly become one of our strongest markets with a demonstrated demand for low-cost vacation travel,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant Travel Company senior vice president of planning. “The establishment of an aircraft base at CVG will further increase the efficiency of our operations, while continuing our drive to be Cincinnati’s leading low-fare carrier.” Allegiant already has 35 weekly flights reaching 11 difference vacation destinations across the U.S. On top of the base, Allegiant says it is adding five new weekly flights to its fall and winter schedule. Service to Savannah/Hilton Head will continue through November 29. New flights will be added for Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa/St. Petersburg. When flights began at CVG, Allegiant carried about 2,800 new monthly passengers. Today, it carries about 25,000 per month. The growth has created 100 new jobs at the airport. “Establishing a base at CVG demonstrates Allegiant’s commitment to serving the passengers of CVG. This base means additional jobs and additional future growth opportunities,” said Candace McGraw, CVG’s CEO.
