UPDATE: 12-Car Crash Pushes Vehicle Off Bridge Into Ohio River

By Travis Thayer Update published Wednesday, March 16 6:22 a.m.: A 12-car crash closed Interstate 275 eastbound between Interstate 471 and Kellogg Avenue for several hours Tuesday evening. Police say the chain-reaction of crashes occurred around 4:30 p.m. causing one vehicle to go off the I-275 Combs-Hehl Bridge and into the Ohio River. The Boone County Water Rescue Team was called to the scene to conduct a search and recovery for possible passengers. They were able to locate the vehicle, but no passengers were found. Their search was called off around 11:00 p.m. when I-275 re-opened to traffic.   Original story published Tuesday, March 15 at 5:09 p.m.: (Fort Thomas, Ky.) – Interstate 275 near Kellogg Avenue is closed due to a car that reportedly traveled off a bridge into the Ohio River. The Ohio Department of Transportation’s website www.OHGO.com said the road was closed due to a crash. A cause of the accident is unknown at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
