(Versailles, Ind.) - Yesterday, members of the 72nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy achieved a goal each had set their sights on from the time the recruit academy began back on July 8, 2012; they received their own patrol cars and are now on solo patrol. The new troopers reported to the Indianapolis Headquarters Garage where they were issued their own patrol vehicles following approximately six months of recruit academy training and three months of field training. Among the 47 new troopers who received their cars were three from the ISP Versailles District.
Trooper Robert Hutson, a Columbus, IN native, graduated from Columbus North High School in 2006. He has attended American Military University and is an MP in the Army National Guard where he served in an “active duty” capacity from 2006 until early 2012 which included a tour of duty in Iraq from February-December, 2011. Tpr. Hutson has been assigned primary patrol responsibility in Jackson County.
Trooper Andrew Mitchell is a native of Brownsburg, IN where he graduated Bethesda Christian High School in 2003. After high school he attended Moody Bible College majoring in Youth Ministry. Prior to attending the ISP recruit academy he served as a jail deputy for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Indianapolis and also served as a reserve officer for the Clermont Police Department. Tpr. Mitchell has been assigned primary patrol responsibility in Ripley County.
Trooper Jamey Sperle is a 1998 graduate of Harding County High School in Buffalo, South Dakota. After high school he attended Dakota Wesleyan University where he majored in Criminal Justice and Psychology graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree. Prior to attending the ISP recruit academy he served as a Parole Agent for the Indiana Department of Correction in Indianapolis. Tpr. Sperle has also been assigned primary patrol responsibility in Ripley County.
