#Layup4Lauren Challenge Benefits Pediatric Cancer Research

By Mike Perleberg (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - It’s being called the “Layup for Lauren Challenge” – spin around five times with a basketball, then attempt to make a layup with your off hand. Mount St. Joseph University basketball player and Lawrenceburg High School graduate Lauren Hill is fighting through terminal brain cancer. Her story has not only been well documented on Eagle 99.3, but in the national media as well appearing on CBS Sunday Morning, Good Morning America, and countless websites. On Monday, the 19-year-old Hill launched the "Layup for Lauren Challenge" by asking NBA star LeBron James, former NBA player Spud Webb, the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon, Cincinnati Bengals players Andrew Whitworth and Andy Dalton, and Lawrenceburg High School girls hoops coach Zane White. If they miss, they have to donate $10 to pediatric cancer research by The Cure Starts Now Foundation through www.layup4lauren.org. The affect of spinning five times prior to the layup can somewhat mimic the dizziness and fatigue Hill feels when she is practicing with her teammates for their season-opener this Sunday, November 2. Since Lauren first issued the challenge, thousands of other people on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites have already begun participating using the hashtag #Layup4Lauren. Eagle 99.3 will broadcast this Sunday’s Mount St. Joseph women’s basketball game featuring Lauren Hill’s college debut. Coverage starting at 1:30 p.m. is proudly presented by United Community Bank. The Lady Lions will play Hiram College at a sold-out Xavier University Cintas Center. HEAR EAGLE 99.3′S INTERVIEW WITH LAUREN HILL IN THE AUDIO PLAYER BELOW.
