By Mike Perleberg Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz may announce she is entering the race for Indiana governor on Thursday. (Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz is expected to announce a run for governor this week. The Democrat has said before that she's considering a run in 2016. Her Ritz4Education campaign Facebook page says there will be “a special campaign announcement” Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. She will also appear at two other announcement events Thursday in Terre Haute and Evansville, as well as more on Friday in Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Hammond. If she declares, Ritz will join a Democratic field that already includes 2012 gubernatorial nominee John Gregg and State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage). The Democrat winner would likely face incumbent Republican Governor Mike Pence in the general election. Ritz would make for an interesting opponent for Pence, who she has sparred with on various education issues since they each took office in 2012. Though they were running for different state offices, the former school librarian received more votes than Pence in the 2012 election. Pence is expected to announce his re-election bid on June 18.
