By Travis Thayer (Burlington, Ky.) – Boone County government may need to add a new board to deal with property owners who are not following the rules. As Boone County’s population rises, so do the code enforcement complaints, reports the Enquirer. The Boone County Fiscal Court is now considering the creation of a code enforcement board to handle the rising amount of complaints the county hears each year. Boone County Government and Community Relations Coordinator Matthew Webster and a group of county employees proposed a five-member Code Enforcement Board, appointed by the judge-executive and approved by Fiscal Court members, who will meet monthly to hear contested ordinance violations. The proposed board would provide avenues for resolution of complaints about nuisances, property upkeep, animal control, and parking violations. Additionally, the code enforcement officers could write citations for observed violations, but they won’t be actively looking around for violations. The Fiscal Court could approve the code enforcement board ordinance at their January 5 meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Boone County Administration Building, located at 2950 Washington Street in Burlington.
